Services We Provide

Please find below a list of what Compass Disability Services could do for you and some approximate costings. If any of these are of interest, or if there are any other projects where you feel Compass Disability Services' involvement may be of benefit, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Reading Groups

Involves individuals reviewing literature, leaflets and policies with a disability perspective. There is a minimum cost involved in this, which will include a small administration charge, postage and a voucher reward for those completing the review.

We are always keen to ensure that a disability equality perspective is considered at all stages of the decision-making process. We have various members in the network who are fully experienced and are regularly involved in steering groups, implementation groups and other board and panels at a strategic level. They meet to review, affect and implement policies and practices that affect disabled people. Compass Disability Services can ensure that where confidentiality is a must that all representatives adhere to our Confidentiality Policy. In terms of cost, as an example for a meeting lasting approximately 2 hours (with half an hour travel time each side and one hour preparation prior to each meeting) the cost would be £80 per meeting for attendance.

Focus Groups

Compass Disability Services has experience of coordinating focus groups to review or consult on various subjects. This involves bringing together groups of disabled people to discuss particular topics of interest to service providers. We use a fully qualified, CRB checked consultant to run the groups. Costings include a pre-meeting to develop a topic guide, the facilitated group, meeting room hire (catering if required) and the detailed report of the findings. Assistance with the implementation of changes brought about by these findings can be given at an additional cost.

Costs can vary depending on the topic, numbers to be consulted and length of consultation. As a guide, a focus group to consult with 10 people as per the above description would cost in the region of £1,000 which includes room hire, catering and travel. We are always happy to quote on any specific requirements an organisation may have.

This is a less detailed but wider spread approach to the above and may also be more appropriate where there is a need for ongoing consultation. We can advertise and gain interest from particular groups to attend forum meetings, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly or whatever suits the particular project; these can be facilitated by Compass Disability Services or representatives from organisations that commission the service can be invited to attend to present and gain feedback. Minutes/newsletters can be produced and circulated as required. Examples of Forums which Compass Disability Services currently run are the Sedgemoor Disability Forum and the Taunton Deane Disability Discussion Group. An exact price can be quoted when detailed specification information is provided.

Service User Involvement in Tendering

Compass Disability Services has been involved in various tendering projects for Somerset County Councils Adult Social Care team and the Somerset Joint Equipment Service. This consists of user groups, who decide upon the questions they would like to ask and then interview all of the prospective service providers. Evaluation sheets are produced by each user and final analysis conveyed to the purchaser. As an example; a group of 10 users required to meet three times in total, including all the administration, venue and support needs, cost £1,500 to £2,000.

Research Projects

Using a fully qualified researcher, we are able to carry out research projects looking at issues that affect disabled people. Examples of previous projects include; Research into wheelchair services in Somerset; and Educational Opportunities for Disabled People in Somerset.

Alternative Research Methods

These may include questionnaires, telephone consultations or specifically tailored events. As any of these can have a wide set of requirements, they are priced accordingly and Compass Disability Services would be happy to work with you to develop a specification.

Access Auditing

Compass Disability Services, using a fully qualified auditor, are able to carry full access audits on properties. Costs depend on size and detail of audit required.

Additional Services

Support Needs

In most circumstances Compass Disability Services includes what it describes as ‘soft’ support needs e.g. large print, tape, Braille. Support needs such as sign language interpreters, care needs are costed additionally to meet the requirements of the user.

In order to increase uptake in involvement, Compass Disability Services often suggests that commissioners meet the travel requirements of those involved in projects. These are costed and charged as per the requirements of the users and in consultation with the users.

Meeting Rooms and Catering

By the nature of the organisation, Compass Disability Services are committed to using accessible venues. We work with the commissioner to assess the budget for venues and catering and organise as required.

If you would like to discuss any of the above or any other needs that you have where you feel Compass Disability Services may be able to support you, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
